imperial palms

Photo installation, dimensions variable, 2010

The palmeira imperial: Roystonea oleracea was introduced to Brazil during colonial times to adorn the Emperor’s gardens. Palms of this kind were later integrated into the town planning of modern Brasilia. Here, the PALMS, like a grid of monumental columns, create a rectangle that encloses the Brazilian parliament. The work imperial palms takes a fleeting look – as if through a moving car’s window – dissolving this architectural grid.
